Reaching the Tipping Point

When we first arrived at Twin Ponds Lodge, we stepped into something truly special—a close-knit community full of heart, history, and genuine connection. Along with that gift, we also inherited a few hurdles: a reputation shaped more by old rumors than by real experiences, and a name that, for many, was still a well-kept secret. Tucked away in this beautiful, rural stretch of central Maine, Twin Ponds Lodge was a little gay camping community hidden in plain sight—most people had no idea we existed, and probably wouldn’t have guessed we were here at all.
Our weeks were sometimes quiet, and reservations didn’t always come easy, but we were never short on support. The folks who already called this place home believed in what Twin Ponds Lodge could become, and their excitement for the future was contagious. That enthusiasm kept us optimistic and energized, even as we waited for the wider region to discover what made this place so special.
More often than not, something magical often happened when a new member walked through our doors, they’d leave genuinely surprised and delighted, expectations exceeded, hearts a little fuller, and excited to share their experience with friends. I used to tell Roberto, “One day, we’ll hit that tipping point when everyone in New England will know someone who loves TPL.”

We invested in entertainment, bringing in more live acts and unforgettable experiences (huge gratitude to DJ Keith James, and to the incomparable Constance & Trampolina, who’ve been with us since the beginning). We also focused on growing the organizations that make up the TPL family: TPL Social Club, The Growing Table, Theta Phi Lambda, and Ranger Alli. Each of these groups is stepping into its own, with dedicated boards ready to lead them into the future.
The truth is, we’re there. We’ve reached the tipping point. And as we look ahead, the next few years promise exponential growth—along with the new challenges and opportunities that come with it. Right now, we’re maxed out on lodging and RV space, and it’s clear we need more event and social spaces, more bathrooms, and (please!) an onsite laundry facility. It’s a little daunting, to be honest. Growth like this is a lot to take on, and figuring out the financing is its own mountain to climb. But we’re working on it, and the excitement for what’s ahead is real.
Since the beginning, we’ve been in love with two seemingly contradictory visions for Twin Ponds Lodge: on one hand, we want to remain that magical,
